The winter cold can really strain the health of our hair, making them drier and brittle. Luckily, it only takes a few tricks in our daily beauty routine to protect hair from the cold and keep it healthy. Here are the ten golden rules to survive the winter with healthy and strong hair.

1. Soft cleansing

How to protect your hair from the cold? Choosing the shampoo that best suits your hair type thus ensuring a gentle cleansing. Washing your hair every day with an excessively aggressive cleanser will deprive your hair of their natural oils, essential to keep them protected and hydrated. A trick to have your hair always clean and fragrant even without washing them is to use a dry shampoo. Also, if your hair is thin, you can opt for a volumizing dry shampoo like Kmax Volumizing Root Spray. In this way, not only you will remove oily excesses without washing your hair too much, but the hair will also look more voluminous and thick.

2. Hot water to the right point

After a long day in the cold, you could wish for a hot shower. Unfortunately, it’s not what your hair needs. Excessive water temperature is likely to damage the hair structure, making it dry and brittle due to the cuticles that with hot water tend to open. Therefore, it is better, when washing your hair, to opt for a shower with warm water, to preserve the cuticles and the right hydration. Result? The hair will be less frizzy and brighter.

3. A mask to protect the hair from winter cold

If the hair begins to show the first side effects of winter cold, it is good to immediately batten down the hatches. In case of dry and dull hair, a hair mask can be extremely effective. Like any treatment, it is essential to maintain a certain perseverance: be sure to make at least one every week. A nourishing mask helps to ensure the hair hydration, protection and softness it needs.

4. Let’s stimulate with a soft massage!

To repair hair dryness, it may be useful to stimulate the circulation by massaging the scalp. To invigorate the hair and promote microcirculation, it is necessary to move the fingertips in a circular direction for at least five minutes going to touch all parts of the back of the head. In this way, the circulation will be activated and hair follicles will receive more nutrition.

Another way to restore an optimal scalp conditions and make sure to maintain the right level of skin hydration is to use an ad-hoc stimulating spray such as Kmax Stimulating Follicle Spray. Thanks to its copper-based peptides formulation, it ensures the health of the scalp and stimulates hair growth. Copper peptides have excellent anti-inflammatory and skin repairing qualities and are particularly suitable for counteracting any irritation of the scalp, seborrhea, redness, itching and dry or oily flaking

5. Dry and do it well

Leaving the house with wet hair is not good neither for your body nor your hair. In fact, in addition to favouring seasonal illnesses, walking in the open air in winter can damage the hair until they break. Drying your hair naturally is not the best solution to protect your hair from the cold. It is better to opt for a protective spray followed by the use of an hairdryer set at a mild temperature.

6. Hair and cold: attention to styling!

During the cold season, brushing and straighteners are able to make your hair even more brittle. First, make sure to choose the brush or comb that best suits your hair type. After that, it would be a good habit to reduce the use of curling irons and straighteners, or at least protect the hair with specific products before using them.

But generally specking, this winter let’s prefer a natural hairstyle and save the hair from the frizz effect.

7. Better tied than loose

To protect your hair from winter cold, a good advice is to keep the hair tied. In fact, leaving the hair too much exposed to cold wind increases the risk of ruining it. The more the hair is tied, the more protected it will be. And if tied hair highlights some empty areas on the haad, you should definitely try the keratin microfibers and in a few seconds each imperfection will be masked.

8. The hat saves hair

From the cloche to the baseball cap, from basque to panama: the best ally of the hair in winter is undoubtedly the hat. Cover the hair during the cold season allows you to protect it from snow, moisture, wind and rain. However, special attention should be paid to the material of the hat. Wool and synthetic fabrics can make hair brittle even until  breakage. So make sure they’re lined inside with a satin, cotton or silk lining.

9.  Hair and humidity: never too dry environments

In winter, you spend most of your time indoors, where heating is often at high temperatures and air recirculation is less frequent. This makes the air particularly dry: a real enemy for the immune system and for the hair. The hair, in fact, immediately becomes more dehydrated and fragile. That’s why a good habit would be to adopt a humidifier to help rehydrate the air. In this way, the hair will maintain the right level of hydration and will not become frizzy.

10. Full of vitamins

Last but not least, to protect your hair from the cold is essential to follow a diet rich in vitamins and minerals. They represent the most important nourishment for our hair: whole grains, fruits, vegetables and Omega 3 are the best weapon against dryness and dehydration
