Hair Loss: The Best Active Principles to Combat the Seasonal Effluvium

In autumn there is more intense hair loss due to a seasonal phenomenon called telogen effluvium, so let's see which are the best active ingredients to stimulate a faster hair growth.

Here we go again, autumn arrives, the days are getting shorter, the first colds begin and we realize that we are starting to lose more hair than usual.

Dozens, but sometimes even hundreds of hair that remain in the brush when we comb, or that we see on the pillow when we wake up.

Do not worry, it is the seasonal hair loss, called telogen effluvium, that major loss of hair that arrives punctually in autumn and spring. It is a completely normal and natural phenomenon that should not alarm us, a legacy of the hair shedding that characterizes most mammals.

Last spring we explained here what are the actions to be taken to combat spring hair loss, measures that remain important also to combat the hair fall in autumn.

Today we want to focus on the specific active ingredients  to stimulate a faster hair growth. Their action work directly on the hair bulb, to both slow down hair fall and stimulate hair renewal.

What are the most effective active ingredients to counteract hair loss and stimulate hair growth?

At a cosmetic level, there are hundreds of products aimed at a topical action to stimulate hair growth, but obviously not all of them perform in the same way.

To extricate ourselves in what may appear a confusing market, we have selected the substances that on the basis of various scientific studies have shown to be the most effective anti-hair loss active ingredients.

Most of the active ingredients used to stimulate hair growth in the cosmetic products work on two fronts:

  • to restore the normal physiological conditions of the scalp to reduce irritation, flaking, itching, and regulate the production of sebum, thus reducing all those conditions that can hinder proper hair growth
  • to perform an effective stimulation action directly on the hair bulb.

So let's analyze the active ingredients with the most effective anti-hair loss action:

Copper peptides

The copper peptides, patented by Loren Pickart, are among the most effective substances for a direct action on the hair follicle able to stimulate its metabolism.

Thanks to several studies carried out since the Second World War in the 1940s, it has been observed that in patients affected by severe burns and scars treated with copper peptides there was a faster healing of wounds thanks to their strong repairing and anti-inflammatory action on skin cells, able to promote skin regeneration.

This regenerative action also had a strong impact on the health of the hair follicles, which were stimulated and increased in size thanks to the generation of new capillaries around the follicles themselves, with a greater supply of oxygen and nutrients and therefore an increased metabolic activity. In fact, copper peptides are able to carry out a general renewal action, to reverse and slow down the skin ageing process and the miniaturization of the hair follicle, restoring the vitality of the epidermal cells and producing a growth of thicker and healthier hair, more pigmented as well.

Azelaic acid

It is an acid that derives from a yeast normally present on the skin, and is used for its strong antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, capable of normalizing the regeneration of epidermal cells. It also has an important stimulating action for hair growth, as it is able to inhibit the action of the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase, the enzyme that transform testosteron in dihydrotestosterone (DHT), responsible for the miniaturization of the hair follicle which over time leads to the death of the follicle itself.and therefore to the end of the hair growth cycle. Used topically, azelaic acid is therefore able to limit the local production of DHT and counteract its effects at the level of the pilo-sebaceous bulb.

Caffeine

Caffeine is an alkaloid substance found in the leaves, seeds and fruits of plants such as coffee and tea. It is widely known for its strong energizing effect on both the body and mind and has long been used in herbal medicine for its invigorating and stimulating properties.

When applied to the scalp thanks to lotions or shampoos, it penetrates the hair follicle, activating its metabolism thanks to a strong stimulation of the cellular microcirculation which results in increased oxygenation and supply of nutrients to the tissues.

A real energy boost for the hair follicle, which with constant application allows the hair to regain vigor and the hair fibers to become stronger.

Triaminodil

Active ingredient with stimulating action on hair regrowth which owes its action to the extraordinary structural similarity to the well-known Minoxidil. Its effectiveness has been verified in several clinical studies that have been used in concentrations from 1 to 5%. It is a molecule for cosmetic use, and not a pharmacological one such as minoxidil, with respect to which it does not present the side effects, and for this reason it is considered one of the main active ingredients to counteract hair loss and stimulate faster regrowth.

All these active ingredients must be applied topically, and to obtain good results for a period of not less than three months, to be followed by a maintenance treatment lasting one month. To counteract seasonal effluvium it is recommended to apply them as early as the end of summer, massaging the product for a few minutes on dry or damp hair, with light circular movements capable of stimulating the microcirculation and therefore the absorption of the active ingredients.

In the Kmax line, the most suitable products to counteract seasonal effluvium are Kmax Stimulating Hair Grow Therapy, the stimulating spray for hair growth, and Kmax Follicle Spray, which perform a complementary and synergistic action on the hair bulb.

Kmax Hair Growth Therapy Spray

seasonal effluvium

It is the new spray lotion for a topical and intensive treatment aimed at stimulating the natural hair growth cycle. Based on an innovative formula, it combines high-dose active ingredients such as Triaminodil, azelaic acid, beta sitosterol, zinc sulfate, vitamin B6, caffeine and nigella sativa for a synergical action against the causes of hair loss: it has a strong anti-inflammatory effect, restores the normal hair growth cycle and inhibits the production of DHT, the hormone responsible for the miniaturization of the hair follicle, involved in androgenetic alopecia.

Kmax Stimulating Follicle Spray

seasonal effluvium

It is a specific lotion for thin hair and for an irritated and itchy scalp. Its high concentration of copper peptides makes it suitable as a complement to pharmacological lotions for hair growth therapies, to restore a healthy condition of the scalp and treat dandruff and flaking problems.
