Hair transplant: what happens now? 

If you have just had a hair transplant or are considering one in the future, you are probably also wondering what the hair transplant will look like before and after and what products you will need to use after the procedure. 

Precisely to address this specific need, last year we designed, in collaboration with top Italian surgeons, the first product kit dedicated to the delicate post-operative phase. In order to achieve the best results, it is important to keep in mind that autotransplantation does not end once you leave the operating room. It continues in one's daily routine by taking care of one's hair every day. 

In this interview, Dr. Tesauro, a surgeon who specializes in hair transplants and has been president of the Italian Society of Trichology (S.I.Tri.) for 20 years, tells us about the results of trials conducted at Poliambulatorio Gioia (Milan) using the Kmax set.

Hair transplantation before and after: the trials 

The trials in question were conducted by Dr. Tesauro at his outpatient clinic on 40 patients after hair transplantation. These subjects were given the Kmax Healing Hair Transplant Post-Surgery Kit, which consists of: two specific cleansers, a soothing oil, and a post-hair transplant supplement. 

After two weeks of use, patients were given a satisfaction questionnaire characterized by specific questions about the usefulness and effectiveness of the Kmax products. 

Washing hair after a hair transplant 

The cleansing phase is one of the most delicate and changing before and after hair transplantation. In fact, after the procedure, it is essential to use cleansers that are able to wash the skin gently without running the risk of removing the newly implanted follicular units. 

The two post-hair transplant products designed by Kmax for cleansing are: the mousse and the ultra-gentle shampoo. The former, Kmax Healing Hair Transplant Post-Surgery Foamer, is rich in emollient and anti-inflammatory active ingredients to cleanse the scalp in the days immediately following hair transplantation. In contrast, Kmax Healing Hair Transplant Post-Surgery Cleanser Shampoo is recommended from the seventh day after hair transplantation.

The first question that was asked to patients undergoing Dr. Tesauro's trials was, "What are the feelings about the two Kmax cleansers?" Ninety percent of them said that the products gave very good cleansing and less sensation of irritation. While, 80% emphasized that they had a significant improvement in terms of redness and irritation. 

Next, patients were asked after how many days they experienced a decrease in scalp flaking. The responses were as follows: 

In contrast, when asked "Do you prefer the application of foam or shampoo?", 50% of patients answered foam, 28.6% shampoo, and 21.4% of patients said they were indifferent. In addition, fragrance was also rated positively by more than 70% of patients. 

Finally, to further test patient satisfaction, patients were asked whether they would continue to use Kmax cleansing products in the future. 53.6% gave a yes answer, 28.6% answered that they were already using another shampoo, and only 17.9% answered no.

The soothing oil for post-transplantation

For many, hair oil is a new addition to the transition between before and after hair transplantation. Kmax Healing Hair Transplant Post-Surgery Lenitive Oil is specifically formulated to soften and promote clot release. With natural extracts of mallow, chamomile and vitamin E, it also has a strong anti-inflammatory and nourishing action. 

In this regard, 57.1% of Dr. Tesauro's patients said they experienced an immediate sensation of relief; while 28.6% said they felt "Quite a bit of relief." Only 14.3% denied that they experienced relief from using Kmax soothing oil. 

"How much does the product leave the skin greasy?" To this question, patients answered: 75% a little, 14.3% not at all, and 10.7% a lot. In fact, this is precisely the intended effect: the coating that the soothing oil creates on the scalp greatly reduces itching. Even in the past to reduce postoperative inflammation, it was recommended to sprinkle the head with Vaseline. 

Finally, the third question was "After how long did the scabs disappear?" 60.7% of the patients stated after 10 days, while 39.3% after 6. None answered "The scabs persist." 

Last step: the supplement for post hair transplantation

In order to conclude this trial, Dr. Tesauro asked his patients to rate Kmax Healing Hair Transplant Post-Surgery Kit overall. As many as 93% of patients gave a positive evaluation.

The aim of this survey was to test the effectiveness of the innovative Kmax product set and the satisfaction of patients who used it in the delicate post-transplant phase.
